MIGFAB x LandCruiser Prado

Updated: May 24, 2022

The Prado arrived at MIG Fabrication HQ with a couple of issues that were stopping the LandCruiser Prado from going off-road and well... we can't have that now can we?

The front tyre was too close to the TJM Bull Bar guard when it was incorrectly installed by another supplier, just by sight you can visually identify the issue.

The Owner of the Prado reported scrubbing whilst general driving, performing full lock U-Turns, reversing or even on slightly uneven surface and upon inspection there's no surprise there.

Managing with these issues, but eager to get them sorted out - insert MIG Fabrication.

A couple hours at MIG Fabrication and the issues were sorted.

Whilst the LandCruiser Prado was at MIG Fabrication HQ with the Owner standing by cheering us on we checked out its capabilities. Lifting it up on the MIG Fabrication Forklift to have a look the Clearance, Travel Height and MIG HQs favourite a Flex Test.

This LandCruiser Prado has a full list of accessories fitted and it looks an absolute treat;

Since the visit to MIG Fabrication the owner has finally taken their Prado off-road like its meant to and tested its capabilities in the Victorian High Country down the Mount Terrible 4x4 Track.

Check out our previous blog post here with a return MIGRIG for some additional modification and some 23Zero camping gear.

''I highly recommend MIG Fabrication for any 4x4 install, or post install troubleshooting/issue resolution work. Jim, the proprietor, is excellent. Here's my story.

I recently had a Toyota Prado fully decked out by one of the mainstream 4x4 franchises. We extensively discussed the intended tyre/wheel spec as part of the build and then agreed on the bar work, GVM upgrade, lift and UCAs to complete the build. I was assured the wheel spec would work.

The originally envisaged tyre spec wouldn't work at all, so I was forced to drop down to a size that was only 25mm larger in diameter than OEM. I still had scrubbing issues at full lock and at near zero articulation. It appeared that the bull bar was mounted too far aft to cover over-cutting the paneling at fitment, effectively constraining my wheel arch clearance. The bull bar couldn't be adjusted due to scrub bars locking it in position.

I approached the 4x4 Franchisee to find a solution, but was effectively dismissed with excuses around tooling and that any under-panel fabrication would affect warranty.

Super frustrated, I looked for a fabrication shop to fix my wheel clearance issue and found MIG Fabrication. Jim was approachable and generous with his time, listened to my problem and was extremely helpful. Visiting the shop, Jim quickly checked the workmanship and identified a range of quality/installation issues, and fixed those on the spot. Jim was very thorough and tested the articulation to gauge the extent of my clearance issue (see pics of the issue before the fix) and then offered a sensible solution to fix it all. Jim's own workmanship is top notch and completely corrected the clearance issues - the end result being robust and had all the appearance of an OEM fitting. It is clear that Jim is an enthusiast with heaps of know-how. I would entrust MIG Fabrication with any future build works and can't recommend MIG highly enough, especially if you need a post install issue fixed.''
